Cold Agglutinins among Koreans
Won Chong-Duk

Chun Chong-Hwee
Abstract
1. The presence of cold agglutinins among 100 Korean donors was examined, 98 cases showed the presence of cold agglutinins at 4-6 C. and the phenomenon of cold aggutination disappeared reversibly at room temperature (15-18 C.) except 2 cases, but disappeared in all cases at 37 C. The titer of cold agglutinin revealed 0-64 times at 4-6 C. though most cases were 1-8 times.
2. Cold agglutinin is ordinarily reversible at room or body temperature. However, in 2 cases seen by us, the healthy donor¢¥s whole blood, after withdrawal from .the bodies into the vaccum blood bottles containing ACD solution, exhibited spontaneous agglutination. The agglutination could be reversed by washing with warm saline at 37 C. in one case, but the agglutination in another case could not be reversed by washing over 3 times with warm saline at 37 C. Incomplete cold agglutinin was seen in one case of them.
3. It has been noticed that powerful cold agglutination could be seen macroscopically in test tubes in 2 cases of aplastic anemia, in one case of uterus cancer and in one case of purpura among 3,802 patients who needed blood transfusion.
